2011 Wrap Up

Found this on a blog I follow and I thought it would be a good "intro" post...and I like the idea of doing these each year to look back on the previous year...

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Saw a therapist
Started (and ended) a business

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any last year, I did say I wanted to have more family events/parties/get togethers. I think we did this, but not really b/c of me. We had 2 family (birthday) parties in February and I did have a party in January.  Need to keep working on this one!
2012 Resolutions: Continue w/ above, maintain a healthier lifestyle, work on photography and sewing!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Stepsister had baby #2 and a close friend had baby #1.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not super close, but my great uncle passed.

5. What countries did you visit?
Zero…maybe Canada, I don’t remember.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
More time for hobbies, more organization, better health.

7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
None really. I’d like to have some more memorable dates in 2012 J

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I guess I would say learning to accept failures. That was big for my over-achieving self.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don’t want to say giving up on my business b/c I didn’t set out to succeed, I just set out to try it and I gave it a good try. I’d say I failed at taking enough time for me (especially w/ exercise/health).

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Normal cold/flu/sinus illnesses. I was diagnosed with some new illnesses (acid reflux & hypoglycemia) and I’m happy to finally have a treatment plan!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
TWO new cars – one for me and one for Vin, both used but “new for us”

12. Where did most of your money go?
Bills, specifically mortgage.

13. What did you get really excited about?
My new car
My new business (for the first several months)

14. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Old Lang Syne, sung by Lea Michele, from the soundtrack of the movie, New Year’s Eve. It’s now my favorite holiday song ever.

15. Compared to this time last year, are you:
 – happier or sadder?
Happier - I was pretty miserable this time last year with my unresolved health issues
– thinner or fatter?
I’m 26 lbs. thinner J
– richer or poorer?
Pretty much the same, although I have a bit more saved up in my personal savings.

16. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Stuck to my goals & taken more time to focus on myself

17. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Less laziness (vegging on the couch)

18. How did you spend Christmas?
Family dinners/parties Friday - Monday. Busy, busy weekend!

19. What was your favorite TV program?
Walking Dead maybe.  Parenthood, Private Practice??  Like I said, too much tv-watching in 2011.

20. What were your favorite books of the year?
I didn’t read much until the end of 2011. I want to change that also in 2012. My favorite was Two Kisses for Maddy by Matt Logelin.

21. What was your favorite music from this year?
I don’t have a favorite from this year. I didn’t listen to much new music.

22. What were your favorite films of the year?
Something Borrowed, Captain America, Rise of the Planet of the Apes

23. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Turned 31. Hmm, I don’t quite remember.  OK, I looked back at my calendar…on my actual birthday, I assume I worked and I had a hair appointment in the evening. We had dinner with a group of friends the Saturday before my birthday and had a family birthday party at our house the weekend after.

24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not gonna lie…a baby. Maybe next year…

25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Lazy Frumpy?  Is that a fashion? I’m trying to care about my appearance a bit more.

26. What kept you sane?
Seeing a therapist  :/

27. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
Sometimes you have to fail before you can succeed.
